We are looking for a Senior Software Test Engineer to lead and strengthen the quality assurance of our mission-critical payment and financial systems. In this role, you will take ownership of test strategy, quality risk assessment, test execution, and defect management to ensure our products meet high standards of functionality, stability, security, and reliability before release.
Beyond hands-on testing, you will play a key role in improving the team's overall quality practices by driving test strategy for complex features, supporting and optimising automation testing, mentoring junior QA team members, and working closely with Product, Development, and Operations teams. You will also serve as a key quality gatekeeper by ensuring that root causes and technical findings are properly verified before they are communicated externally. This role is well suited for an experienced QA professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced fintech environment and taking ownership of quality across complex payment systems.
What You'll Do:
Test Strategy and Planning
- Lead requirement review and test planning for complex features and cross-system projects, working closely with Product and Development teams to understand business logic, technical dependencies, and potential edge cases.
- Define appropriate testing scope and strategies covering functional, regression, compatibility, performance, security, and other non-functional requirements.
- Proactively identify quality, security, compliance, and delivery risks during the early stages of development and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Take ownership of test strategy decisions for assigned modules or projects and proactively escalate significant risks and trade-offs.
Test Case Design and Quality Coverage
- Design, develop, and maintain comprehensive test cases covering functional, regression, compatibility, performance, security, and end-to-end testing scenarios.
- Lead test case reviews to ensure appropriate coverage, accuracy, efficiency, and traceability to business and technical requirements.
- Maintain and continuously optimise the test case repository to improve test coverage, reduce duplication, and enhance testing efficiency.
- Prepare and maintain suitable test data and environments to support reliable and production-representative testing, particularly for complex payment workflows.
Test Execution and Defect Management
- Execute manual and automated test cases to validate software functionality, business logic, user interactions, and system behaviour.
- Perform UI, input validation, compatibility, and regression testing across relevant devices, browsers, operating systems, and platforms.
- Identify, document, prioritise, and track defects with clear reproduction steps, supporting evidence, and impact analysis.
- Work closely with Development teams to reproduce issues, clarify defects, and support timely resolution.
- Conduct regression and verification testing to confirm that defects have been effectively resolved without introducing new issues.
Payment, Security, and Performance Testing
- Validate end-to-end payment workflows, including authorisation, settlement, refunds, chargebacks, reconciliation, and other transaction-related processes.
- Ensure financial accuracy, transaction integrity, and appropriate handling of exceptions and edge cases across payment flows.
- Plan and execute performance testing to assess system responsiveness, stability, and scalability under expected transaction volumes and system load.
- Participate in security testing activities, including input and boundary testing, API authentication validation, credential and token handling, and other relevant security scenarios.
- Identify potential vulnerabilities and quality risks that may impact sensitive financial data, transaction security, or system reliability.
Test Automation and Platform Collaboration
- Execute and optimise automated test cases and scripts, where required, using the company's existing automation testing platform and frameworks.
- Work closely with automation or platform owners to improve automation coverage, reliability, and effectiveness.
- Analyse automation test results and provide feedback to support continuous improvement of the automation testing platform.
- Stay updated on relevant testing tools, automation approaches, and industry practices, and share useful knowledge with the QA team.
Quality Monitoring and Continuous Improvement
- Analyse defect trends, recurring issues, and quality metrics to identify opportunities for improving test strategies and development quality.
- Conduct user experience testing and provide constructive feedback on potential UI/UX improvements from an end-user perspective.
- Prepare test reports, quality acceptance reports, and risk assessments, highlighting key findings and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
- Continuously improve testing processes, methodologies, and quality practices to increase efficiency, coverage, and reliability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Root-Cause Governance
- Work closely with Development teams to provide timely, clear, and actionable testing feedback throughout the development lifecycle.
- Partner with Product teams to identify requirement gaps, clarify business logic, and ensure testing coverage aligns with documented requirements.
- Support Operations teams in investigating and tracking production issues where required.
- Verify root causes and technical findings internally before any external-facing communication is provided.
- Ensure that unverified assumptions, preliminary findings, or incomplete root-cause analysis are not communicated as confirmed conclusions to upstream stakeholders or external parties.
Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior and mid-level QA team members, particularly in test case design, testing methodology, and defect analysis.
- Review the quality of team members' test cases and defect reports and provide constructive feedback to improve overall testing standards.
- Share testing knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned to strengthen the team's overall QA capability.
- Contribute to the development and adoption of consistent testing standards and quality practices across the team.
AI Tool Adoption
- Apply AI tools as part of daily testing activities to improve productivity, efficiency, and quality.
- Leverage AI tools to support activities such as test case design, test scenario generation, defect triage and analysis, documentation, reporting, and process improvement.
- Explore and adopt relevant AI-enabled testing approaches where appropriate to continuously improve QA workflows and effectiveness.
What We're Looking For:
- At least 6 years of experience in Software Quality Assurance or Software Testing, including at least 3 years of experience within the fintech, payments, financial services, or a similarly regulated technology environment.
- At least 1 year of experience operating in a senior, lead, or equivalent capacity, with responsibility for guiding test strategy, reviewing QA work, or mentoring team members.
- Strong experience designing and executing test strategies for complex systems, including functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing.
- Solid understanding of payment workflows and payment security principles, including areas such as authorisation, settlement, refunds, chargebacks, reconciliation, and fraud or risk controls.
- Strong API testing skills and good proficiency in SQL for data validation and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with test automation tools and frameworks such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or similar technologies, with the ability to execute, maintain, and optimise automated test cases as needed.
- Working knowledge of performance testing concepts and tools, with the ability to assess system responsiveness and scalability under load.
- Basic understanding of software security testing concepts, including authentication, authorisation, input validation, token handling, and common security risks.
- Strong defect analysis and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to distinguish symptoms from root causes and ensure findings are appropriately verified.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring or reviewing the work of other QA team members and contributing to the development of team testing standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying quality risks.
- Comfortable working closely with Product, Development, Operations, and other cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to actively adopt and use AI tools as part of daily QA work, including for test case generation, defect analysis, reporting, and workflow improvement.
- Familiarity with test management and defect tracking tools such as Jira, Meegle, or similar platforms.
- Fluent in English and Mandarin (spoken and written), with the ability to communicate effectively and prepare documentation in both languages.
- The role is based fully onsite, requiring your presence in the office.
