We are looking for a Senior Full-Stack Developer to provide hands-on technical leadership and architecture ownership for our core payment and wallet systems. In this role, you will design and build highly reliable, scalable, and transaction-critical systems across both backend and frontend layers.
You will take ownership of complex technical challenges, from distributed transactions, database consistency, and high-concurrency processing to frontend architecture and performance. As a senior technical contributor, you will also lead technical reviews, establish engineering standards, investigate complex production incidents, and mentor engineers across the team. This role is ideal for a highly experienced full-stack engineer who is comfortable working independently, making architecture-level decisions, and operating in a fast-paced environment where system reliability, accuracy, and scalability are critical.
What You'll Do:
Architecture and Technical Ownership
- Design and own the end-to-end architecture for core payment and wallet systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability.
- Design robust solutions for complex distributed system challenges, including database transaction management, high-concurrency locking, data consistency, and message queue reliability.
- Define and drive architecture patterns and technical approaches for transaction-critical systems.
- Review technical designs and proactively identify potential risks, performance bottlenecks, scalability issues, and architectural gaps before implementation.
- Collaborate with Engineering Leads, Product, PM/PMO, and QA teams during the requirement and solution design stages to clarify technical boundaries, dependencies, and constraints and reduce downstream rework.
Full-Stack Development
- Independently design, develop, and optimise backend microservices and frontend applications supporting critical and high-risk payment workflows.
- Build and maintain scalable backend services using Core Java, Spring Boot, MyBatis, and related technologies.
- Design reliable approaches for distributed transactions, asynchronous processing, message queues, and database operations under high transaction volumes.
- Architect and develop frontend solutions using React and TypeScript, including state management, component architecture, and performance optimisation.
- Take ownership of complex technical implementations across frontend, backend, database, and integration layers.
Engineering Standards and Technical Leadership
- Lead technical and code reviews to ensure high standards of code quality, system design, reliability, and maintainability.
- Establish, promote, and enforce engineering standards, architecture principles, and development best practices across the team.
- Identify opportunities to improve development processes, code quality, system observability, and engineering efficiency.
- Provide technical guidance and architectural direction for complex projects and critical system changes.
Production Incident Management and Root-Cause Analysis
- Serve as a key technical escalation point for complex production incidents involving frontend, backend, database, and integration layers.
- Lead structured root-cause analysis for critical incidents, particularly those involving cross-layer inconsistencies and transaction-related issues.
- Drive post-incident reviews and postmortems, identifying both immediate fixes and longer-term preventive actions.
- Develop repeatable troubleshooting frameworks, diagnostic approaches, and engineering practices to improve the team's ability to investigate and resolve complex issues.
Mentorship and Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Mentor full-stack and mid-level engineers on software architecture, system design, troubleshooting, and engineering best practices.
- Conduct technical knowledge sharing and support the development of engineering capabilities across the team.
- Work closely with Frontend and Backend Engineering Leads to align technical approaches and maintain consistency across the technology stack.
- Partner with Product, PM/PMO, and QA teams to translate business requirements into practical and scalable technical solutions.
- Communicate technical designs, risks, and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What We're Looking For:
- At least 8 years of full-stack software development experience, with proven experience taking architecture-level ownership of at least one large-scale or business-critical production system.
- Strong backend engineering expertise in Core Java, Spring Boot, and MyBatis, with hands-on experience building and operating production systems.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, including transaction design, data consistency, concurrency control, locking mechanisms, and message queue reliability patterns.
- Proven experience designing systems that operate reliably under high transaction volumes and real-world production workloads.
- Strong frontend architecture experience using React and TypeScript, with the ability to independently design frontend solutions rather than solely implementing predefined designs.
- Experience designing frontend state management strategies, scalable component architectures, and performance optimisation approaches for complex applications.
- Demonstrated experience leading root-cause analysis for complex production incidents involving multiple layers, including frontend, backend, databases, and system integrations.
- Ability to develop structured and repeatable troubleshooting approaches that improve team-wide incident investigation and resolution capabilities.
- Experience working in payments, fintech, digital wallets, or other transaction-critical domains is highly preferred.
- Good understanding of financial-grade engineering requirements, including idempotency, audit trails, reconciliation, data integrity, and transaction consistency.
- Proven experience mentoring engineers and contributing to the technical development and capability of an engineering team.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Fluent in English and Mandarin (spoken and written) to support effective technical communication with overseas business teams and Mandarin-speaking vendors.
- Self-motivated and comfortable operating in an environment where requirements or roadmaps may not always be fully defined.
- Strong sense of ownership, with the ability to independently identify technical problems, propose solutions, and drive improvements from design through implementation.
- The role is based fully onsite, requiring your presence in the office.
